Training course overview

How should analytical laboratories deal with the enormous amount of data and information they handle in their daily routine? Safeguarding the integrity and traceability of data and information relating to samples, analysis results, quality control, customers, suppliers, procedures, and work instructions, requires a robust and flexible management system. ISO17025 in its latest edition (2017) provides a framework for data control and quality assurance in analytical laboratories.

This training course will greatly assist in understanding the requirements of ISO17025:2017 and how to design a Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) to meet these requirements. In addition, it will help participants to develop mechanisms to verify the efficiency and on-going fitness-for-purpose of such a system.

What are the goals?

By attending this Coventry Academy training course, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the Concept of Data Integrity and Information Management
  • Realize the Importance of Traceability in All Laboratory Operations
  • Design and/or Implement an Effective LIMS in Line with ISO17025 Requirements
  • Apply the Benefits of LIMS on the Management and Technical Requirements of ISO17025
  • Use LIMS as a Tool to Increase Productivity in Testing Laboratories
  • Apply LIMS to Satisfy the Risk Management and Decision Rule Requirements of ISO17025

Who is this training course for?

This training course is suitable for a wide range of professionals but will greatly benefit:

  • Management and Technical Personnel of Testing Laboratories, in a Wide Spectrum of Activities (e.g. Oil Refinery, Food and Utility Industries, Water Treatment)
  • Laboratories That Are in the Course of Preparation to Obtain ISO17025 Accreditation
  • Laboratories in the Process of Implementing or Upgrading Their LIMS
  • Newly Recruited Laboratory Personnel

Course Outline

Amongst a wide range of valuable topics, the following will be prioritised:
  • Definition of Laboratory Accreditation: Accreditation Bodies and Multilateral Agreements on Cross Frontier Recognition of Accreditation
  • Management Requirements of ISO17025: Quality Manual, Document Control, Tenders, Suppliers, Service to the Customer, Internal Audits
  • Technical Requirements of ISO17025: Personnel, Equipment, Traceability, Reference Standards, Sampling, Quality Assurance of Results, Test Certificates
  • Risk Management and Decision Rules: The New Requirements of ISO17025:2017
  • Basic Guidelines on the Design of a LIMS
  • Implementation of a LIMS in the Context of ISO17025
  • Sampling – Handling of Test Items & The Role of LIMS as the First Link in the Sample Traceability Chain
  • Measurement Traceability Through LIMS
  • Use of LIMS to Monitor Progress of In-House Testing & Subcontracted Analysis
  • The Role of LIMS in the Quality Assurance (QA) of Test Results and Analytical Data

The certificate

  • Coventry Academy Certificate of Attendance will be provided to delegates who attend and complete the course
