Training Introduction

Pipelines are critical assets in the oil and gas industry, enabling safe and efficient transport of hydrocarbons across processing plants, refineries, and production facilities. The Pipeline Operations & Maintenance Training Course provides participants with a thorough understanding of pipeline systems, focusing on operation, inspection, maintenance, and risk mitigation.

This course covers the interaction of pipelines with flow-moving equipment such as pumps and compressors, material degradation mechanisms, flow measurement, cleaning, and preventive maintenance. Participants will gain practical knowledge of inspection procedures, testing methods, and repair technologies to prevent failures, improve reliability, and extend pipeline life. Workshops and case studies are included to simulate real-world industrial challenges and foster knowledge exchange.

The course emphasizes practical application of standards such as ASME B31.3, inline inspection (ILI), smart pigging, and risk-based approaches to pipeline integrity management.

Key focus areas of this course:

  • Safe and efficient operation of pipelines in industrial applications
  • Interaction with pump and compressor stations
  • Flow measurement and custody transfer practices
  • Material degradation mechanisms: corrosion, erosion, stress corrosion cracking
  • Cathodic protection, coatings, and mitigation technologies
  • Pipeline cleaning, maintenance, and repair practices
  • Inspection methodologies: hydrostatic testing, RBI, and fitness-for-service (FFS)
  • Monitoring and estimating remaining life of equipment

What are the goals?

By the end of this training course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the technical characteristics and operational principles of pipelines
  • Apply best practices in pipeline operation, inspection, and maintenance
  • Recognize and mitigate material degradation and failure risks
  • Implement pipeline cleaning and reconditioning methods effectively
  • Use inspection and monitoring techniques to evaluate pipeline integrity
  • Apply risk-based inspection (RBI) and fitness-for-service (FFS) methodologies
  • Develop practical skills through real-world examples and workshop exercises

Who is this Training Course for?

This training course is designed for professionals responsible for the operation, inspection, and maintenance of pipeline systems.

This training course is suitable to a wide range of professionals but will greatly benefit:

  • Process, chemical, and mechanical engineers in oil refineries, gas production, and petrochemical plants
  • Operations, technical service, and maintenance personnel involved in pipeline management
  • Engineers and consultants planning new production lines or retrofitting existing pipelines
  • Technical staff responsible for pipeline repair, monitoring, and safety compliance

How will this Training Course be Presented?

The course is delivered using a combination of formal lectures, interactive workshops, case studies, and practical examples. Active discussions and knowledge sharing are encouraged to reinforce understanding. Participants will learn through scenario-based exercises simulating challenges in pipeline operation, maintenance, and inspection.

All course materials are provided, and participants gain practical insights that can be immediately applied to industrial pipeline systems.
