Training Overview

Training Overview

Why is integrating renewable energy vital for modern electrical grid systems? This Renewable Energy Integration training course focuses on integrating renewable energy, distributed generation, energy storage, thermally activated technologies, and demand response into the electric distribution and transmission infrastructure.

Solar power and wind turbines are being utilized to develop and demonstrate integration strategies that overcome technical, economic, regulatory, and institutional obstacles to using renewable and distributed energy systems. In addition to addressing operational concerns, the integration process also establishes sustainable business models for incorporating these technologies into capacity planning, grid management, and demand-side strategies.

As electric utilities face increasing pressure to meet Renewable Portfolio Standards, they are looking to generate energy from wind, solar, geothermal, and biomass. However, incorporating power from these renewable sources into the grid poses significant challenges.

This training course will have the following benefits:

  • Reduce carbon emissions and emissions of other air pollutants through increased use of renewable energy and other clean distributed generation
  • Increase of asset use through integration of distributed systems and customer loads to reduce peak load and thus lower the costs of electricity
  • Support achievement of renewable portfolio standards for renewable energy and energy efficiency
  • Enhance reliability, security, and resiliency from microgrid applications in critical infrastructure protection and highly constrained areas of the electric grid
  • Support reductions in oil use by enabling plug-in electric vehicle (PHEV) operations with the grid
  • Emphasis on wind power, solar power and energy storage systems

What are the goals?

By the end of this Coventry Academy training course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the grid flexibility to renewable energy integration
  • Determine the various types of renewable energy
  • Explain the different types of solar panels
  • Analyse the common types of wind farms
  • Understand the various type of energy storage systems

Who is this Training Course for?

This training course is suitable to a wide range of professionals but will greatly benefit:

  • Electrical engineers
  • Electrical supervisors
  • Power engineers
  • Managers in-charge of electrical installations
  • Project engineers

How will this Training Course be Presented?

This training course will utilise a variety of proven adult training techniques to ensure maximum understanding, comprehension and retention of the information presented. This includes presentation and discussion of latest videos and technologies on smart grids and renewable energy. Questions are encouraged throughout, particularly at the daily wrap up sessions. This provides opportunities for participants to discuss with the Presenter specific issues and, if possible, find appropriate solutions. Specific goals of each participant will be discussed to ensure that their needs are fulfilled whenever practicable.
